- Should I get my Vitamin D levels tested before starting?
- We recommend it. A serum 25(OH)D test gives us your baseline level and allows us to prescribe the appropriate dose. Optimal levels are generally considered to be between 40–60 ng/mL. If you have recent labs, bring them to your appointment.
- How quickly will my levels improve after an injection?
- Serum Vitamin D levels typically rise within 1–2 weeks of an intramuscular injection. The rate of improvement depends on your starting level and the dose administered. Follow-up testing at 6–8 weeks helps confirm your response.
- Can I take too much Vitamin D?
- Vitamin D toxicity (hypervitaminosis D) is possible but rare, and almost always associated with excessive oral supplementation over extended periods. Intramuscular injections administered under clinical supervision are dosed appropriately to your needs. We monitor your levels to ensure you stay in the optimal range.
- What is the difference between D2 and D3?
- D2 (ergocalciferol) is plant-derived and less potent. D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form naturally produced by human skin and is significantly more effective at raising and maintaining serum Vitamin D levels. We use D3 exclusively.
- Can Vitamin D injections help with depression?
- Research supports a relationship between Vitamin D deficiency and depression, particularly seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Correcting deficiency often improves mood, energy, and motivation — though it is not a standalone treatment for clinical depression.
